We lost this unicorn suddenly February 3rd, 2022 a week after his 20th birthday. You are dearly missed. 11 years was not enough time to spend with you.

The hardest thing about losing Conkar+/ is knowing he is not coming home. It doesn't seem to be true. Khalahari, his half brother and herdmate, has been calling out for him for almost a week. Conkar+/ was truly the epitome of the kind, versatile, athletic, willing, trainable, friendly, and forgiving nature of the Arabian Horse. Thank you Kathy, Jimmy, Dr. Smith and the team at UGA for doing everything within your power to try to bring our sweet boy back home. We knew Conkar+/ was not doing well sadly on his 20th birthday when we took him to UGA. He underwent surgery for a strangulating lipoma. On Wednesday morning the next week there were strong hopes he would be home with us again by the weekend; however, very early on Thursday morning with internal bleeding and other complications from the surgery, another surgery was not an option so he had to be laid to rest.
We first met Conkar+/ at age 3 at the Georgia Arabian Horse Association Summer Classic and our first impression was that he was the absolutely sweetest horse and so incredibly handsome! He had a wonderful upbringing and start to life at Chapel Hill Farms and with Teri and Dale Brown. When we heard he was available to purchase at age nine, we didn't even ride him to try him out, but had him vet checked and hauled him home. He was another wonderful addition to our barn of lovely bays and he fit right in! Conkar 100% put faith in his humans. When we purchased Conkar+/, he needed a bit of re-training/re-schooling at that time, but you would never have known it. We adored developing him as a sport horse - gradually working him over poles and cavalettis and he blossomed into an incredible hunter. We taught him to jump and he learned all his 3rd level dressage movements in less than three months. He was extremely intelligent and willing to please. He was such an athlete to do so well in hunters and dressage. Conkar+/ helped Megan earn her USDF Bronze Medal by getting her 3rd Level scores on him in 2018. Conkar+/ also attended AHA Nationals in hunter pleasure and halter with a previous owner and we did several combined training schooling shows with him. Conkar+/ would have made an incredible eventer if that was an area we had wanted to pursue.
Not only was Conkar+/ an United States Equestrian Federation/US Equestrian Horse of the Year National Champion along with two time USEF Regional Champion, a two-time AHA National Champion with Jessica, and 7-time National Top Ten winner in dressage and hunters, schooled up to 3' as a hunter and was a proven 3rd level dressage horse, he had competed successfully against all breeds on the USDF circuit and GHJA circuit, went on countless trail rides, attended hunter paces and had given many first time and beginner riders the opportunity to have safe and fun rides. There were too many bareback rides and adventures together to count. One of our favorite memories, though, were laidback bareback rides around the farm during our once a year snow storms. He made all our dreams come true! He was leased by an advanced beginner for hunters and has toted so many beginners around, including Megan's husband, Bradley. He was Bradley's favorite horse to ride! Conkar+/ was the first horse that Bradley helped bathe and show prep and was the first one of our horses that Bradley rode. Conkar+/ was also highly praised by "A/AA" hunter/equitation trainers and Grand Prix/FEI dressage trainers. Conkar+/ represented the Georgia Arabian Horse Association and Arabian Horse in the Parade of Breeds at the 2021 Georgia Horse Fair & Expo.
We always joked that he is the best hunter we have - although we have so many fantastic hunters in our barn! He was an absolute dream to compete in equitation due to his steadiness and rideability. Conkar+/ was just one of those horses who is SO easy to be around and ride! Spending time with Conkar+/ was pleasant and relaxing and he was so sweet. Conkar+/ would stand for hours quietly and to patiently be braided or clipped. He was never in your face wanting attention, but would gently come rest his nose on you when he wanted some love. He was very respectful of your space, but loved kisses! We always loved watching Kid and Conkar scratch each other’s withers and play as they were best friends. Conkar+/ had a calm confidence and gentle nature about him. Because of this we always wanted to pay careful attention to his wants and needs. If Conkar+/ ever had something to "say," we knew it was for a VERY good reason. He was a phenomenal best friend, teammate, and partner with the sweetest soul! Conkar+/ taught us so much and there is no way to ever properly show our enormous gratitude for him.
Conkar+/ thank you for all you gave us. We were lucky to have you in our family and such an important part of our lives for 11 years. Wish we had another 11 years with you. You are so missed.
